Diluting Sulfuric Acid: Why You Add Acid to Water, Not Water to Acid
Always add acid to water, never water to acid. Adding water to concentrated sulfuric acid releases heat so rapidly that it can boil and violently splash the acid. Pour the acid slowly into a large volume of cold water while stirring. GHS classification: Danger (H290 corrosive to metals, H314 causes severe skin burns and eye damage).
